TSN is reporting that the Pens have signed Sid The Kid to a 5 year $43.5m contract. The contract will begin after this season and will keep Crosby in Pittsburgh through the 2012-13 season. Looks like the Oiler$ will have to find a new strategy for next summer!
Like I said in Part II of my ongoing analysis of the Gomez/Drury signings, I don't expect too many of these types of players to hit the open market. The only exception is for players who want to change locations.
I think Crosby signing long term is a sign of Mario Lemieux's influence. Mario spent an entire career here and speaking as a Pittsburgher, we revere him here. Jagr became the anti-Mario.
Pittsburghers tend to side with the heroes who are humble, dedicated, hardworking, and loyal. Crosby is learning from him.

Great move by the Pens. What dos this mean for the rest of the 'core' young guys- Malkin, Staal, Fleury? Do they have future cap space available to keep these guys too for those year? That would be an unbelievable team, only because its been a while since we saw a core group of guys really grow up together....

Thanks for the comments Michael. As a Pens fan perhaps you can shed some light on the circumstances surrounding Jagr's departure from the team?
Moss: I think the reality of the cap will force the pens to move either Staal or Malkin at some point. Additionally, why would the Pens need to keep 3 first line centers on their team? They could trade one of the aforementioned players to strengthen themselves at a different position. Needless to say, the Pens are in great shape for the foreseeable future with the core of young stars that they've assembled. They will be a scary oponent for years to come!

Jagr left a very successful Penguins' club because he could not accept his role after Mario came back. He was the appointed leader, inherited after Francis left. He was the last guy who was clearly identifiable as "franchise". Mario was running the show again as soon as he started his 2nd career, Jagr had to get out. Its really that simple. Its always struck me as funny when he said "They made a big mistake" trading him to Washington. Not as funny as when the Rangers had Jagr, Kovalev, and Bure, though. Oh, and Messier and Lindros.
Keeping the Penguins' 3 "centres" is crucial. Malkin is going to play wing most of his career, and Staal will be our #1 pk centre. When nobody can contain either Crosby or Malkin individually, we'll roll 3 dangerous lines. PP and PK will be anchored by #1 centres most of the time, and those boys will learn how to win together for the next 3-4 years. Good luck, Atlantic rivals, and especially Olaf Kolzig.

Jonathan:
Thanks for the comments. The bottom line is $. In a few short years, to keep Crosby, Malkin and Staal, the Pens will have to max out their cap space. Will the club be willing and able to do that?

I personally have embraced the new technologies, I think the new tools only make the web designs better. I am glad that new technologies are coming out in web design that make things easier, improved, and better looking for design.

Anyways.. good lesson here, I guess. It's been a tough past year, times when I've questioned certain bands that are praised a lot because of things that I shouldn't and don't want to talk about.

Hi. Nice to see an honest attempt at presenting some well researched information. Had a nice time reading. Keep up the good work.
I fell in love with the wood tables and wanted them for my school. They are perfect for my needs. When I called they wouldn't give out the name of the manufacturer! Any ideas?
